馃嚜馃嚫ESPA脩OL (ESPA脩A)

Latvia is one of the three Baltic states, located between Estonia to the north and Lithuania to the south. Like its neighbors, it is a mostly flat and green country, with nearly half of its territory covered by forests and a long, white-sand coastline on the Baltic Sea. Its history is marked by the domination of various foreign powers, including the German Teutonic Knights, Poles, Swedes, and Russians. It was part of the Soviet Union until it regained its independence in 1991, also through the peaceful "Singing Revolution."

!

Its capital, Riga, is the largest city in the three Baltic states, and its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is especially famous for having the highest concentration of Art Nouveau buildings in the world, with facades full of ornamental details and fantastic figures. Latvian culture has a rich folklore and a strong choral tradition, with a song and dance festival held every five years that is one of its greatest expressions of national identity. A fun fact: it is said that the first-ever decorated Christmas tree was in Riga, back in the year 1510!
