London will be witness of one of the Exemplary Novels written in 1613 by Miguel de Cervantes: "The English Spanish Lady" and also one of the first places were Don Quixote novels would be acclaimed in the winter of 1605. Don Diego Sarmiento de Acuña, Count de Gondomar, the Spanish ambassador to England from 1613–1618, is eager to receive his copy of Don Quixote. Thomas Shelton's translation of the first part of the novel into English was published in London in 1612. It was the first translation into any language. It was likely to have been based on an episode in Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote involving the character Cardenio, a play later written by William Shakespeare and Fletcher.

Y Londres será uno de los primeros lugares donde va a triunfar el Quijote : en el invierno de 1605, el embajador de España en Londres, el conde de Gondomar, está ansioso por recibir su ejemplar del Quijote, y en 1612 se publica la primera traducción, que será la que firma Thomas Shelton. En inglés lo debió de leer William Shakespeare y Fletcher, que se basaron en algunos de sus episodios para escribir su comedia « Cardenio ».

En el Albert Memorial (1861) de Londres se encuentra el Friso del Parnaso, donde se representan junto a Cervantes otros escritores como Homero, Virgilio, Dante, Shakespeare, Molière o Goethe.
