The fourth of posts then vacant will be as corregidor in the city of La Paz, founded in 1548. In La Paz is preserved a replica of the statue of Cervantes that stands in front of the Congress of deputies in Madrid, Spain. It is a gift made by the mayor Enrique Tierno Galvan in the early eighties of the twentieth century.

El cuarto de los puestos vacantes a los que aspirará Cervantes en 1590 será el de corregidor de la ciudad de La Paz, fundada en 1548. De haberlo conseguido hubiera sido el mayor puesto obtenido por alguien de su familia : su abuelo, Rodrigo de Cervantes, el gran triunfador de la familia, solo llegar a ser teniente de corregidor. « Busque por acá donde se le haga merced », será la contestación del Consejo de Indias a estas pretensiones. Con esta frase se acaba el sueño americano de Cervantes.

En La Paz se conserva una réplica de la estatua de Cervantes que se erige delante del Congreso de los Diputados en Madrid. Se trata de un regalo que hizo el entonces alcalde Enrique Tierno Galván a principios de los años ochenta del siglo XX.
