RR2 – Province of Potenza Italy

The Province of Potenza, located in the Basilicata Region, covers 6,500 km² and includes 100 municipalities with a population of approximately 378,000 inhabitants. Its economy is based on trade, agriculture, forestry, fishing, construction, tourism and manufacturing.

The territory is exposed to multiple climate-related risks, including droughts, desertification, wildfires and floods, compounded by natural hazards such as earthquakes and landslides.

Within DesirMED, the focus is on strengthening climate governance and enhancing the uptake of Nature-based Solutions. Key actions aim to improve institutional capacity, stakeholder engagement, public awareness, data availability and access to resources, while supporting urban and territorial regeneration to increase resilience to climate change and natural hazards.
