Norway is a Nordic country, the westernmost on the Scandinavian Peninsula, famous for its incredibly long and rugged coastline, indented by thousands of fjords: deep, flooded glacial valleys that create a landscape of dramatic beauty. Much of the country is covered by mountains, and its northern tip extends into the Arctic Circle, making it a prime location to see both the Northern Lights in winter and the "midnight sun" in summer. Historically, it was the home of the Vikings, expert sailors and explorers.

In the 20th century, the discovery of enormous oil and gas reserves in the North Sea transformed Norway into one of the richest countries with the highest quality of life in the world. True to its social democracy model, much of this wealth is managed through a sovereign wealth fund, the largest in the world, to ensure the well-being of future generations. Norwegians have a very deep connection with nature (friluftsliv, or "open-air life"). Its capital is Oslo, a modern and green city that combines innovative architecture with museums dedicated to its Viking heritage.
