Yibuti es un pequeño país en el Cuerno de África, situado en una de las rutas marítimas más transitadas y estratégicas del mundo: el estrecho de Bab el-Mandeb, que conecta el Mar Rojo con el Golfo de Adén. Esta ubicación le ha dado una enorme importancia geopolítica, y el país alberga numerosas bases militares extranjeras (de EE.UU., China, Francia, Japón, etc.), que son una de sus principales fuentes de ingresos.
