Ha causado cientos of miles de muertes, el desplazamiento de más de la mitad de la población y la destrucción de gran parte de su increíble patrimonio cultural. El país se encuentra fracturado y su futuro es incierto. La situación actual hace que sea imposible visitarlo y ha sumido a su gente en un sufrimiento extremo.

Syria, in the heart of the Middle East, is one of the cradles of civilization. Its capital, Damascus, is considered the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. For millennia, it was a vital crossroads for empires and the Silk Road. It hosts an overwhelming historical and archaeological heritage, with ancient cities like Palmyra, Crusader fortresses like the Crac des Chevaliers, and the souk of Aleppo, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, all designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

However, Syria's recent history is devastating. Since 2011, the country has been immersed in a brutal and complex civil war that has caused one of the worst humanitarian crises of the 21st century. It has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths, the displacement of more than half the population, and the destruction of much of its incredible cultural heritage. The country is fractured, and its future is uncertain. The current situation makes it impossible to visit and has plunged its people into extreme suffering.
