DR3 – Sardinia Region (Italy)

The Region of Sardinia covers 24,090 km², includes 377 municipalities and has a population of around 1.6 million inhabitants. With over 2,650 km of coastline, its economy is largely based on tourism, agriculture, fishing and technology.

The region is particularly vulnerable to sea level rise and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, which threaten coastal areas through erosion, biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation.

Within DesirMED, activities will focus on improving the resilience of marine and coastal ecosystems. Key actions include regional studies on climate change impacts on beaches and coastlines, as well as the assessment of green infrastructure and ecosystem services to support adaptation and sustainable coastal management.
