DR2 – Valencia Region Spain The Valencia Region, located on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, covers 23,255 km² and is home to around 5.1 million inhabitants. Its economy is driven by tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, transport and services.

The region is increasingly affected by rising temperatures and prolonged dry conditions, which heighten the risk of large-scale wildfires. Extensive forest continuity and climate change are expected to increase both the frequency and severity of these events.

Through DesirMED, actions will focus on wildfire prevention, biodiversity protection and climate adaptation. The project will support the identification of high-risk areas, strengthen meteorological monitoring systems, and promote innovative solutions such as green firebreaks and circular water management, particularly in the wildland–urban interface.
